I’d like to preface this post to anyone reading this that it is important for a company to communicate with their representatives and customers about how world events are effecting business and concerns of customers.  Even though this is sent by Jay Hare, President of IonWays, to the Associates, it’s just as important to you who are looking for water systems, filtration, and understand that the company does have your best interest at heart.

Dear IonWays Associates,

In the wake of the recent and ongoing tragedy in Japan, we have received many questions covering a range of topics from radiation and drinking water to the Emco Tech plant in Japan.

First and foremost, I would like to state that IonWays’ collective heart goes out to the entire nation of Japan and specifically the employees and families of Emco Tech’s Japanese R&D and Manufacturing division. We wish Emco Tech Japan and the entire Japanese community all the best for a speedy and complete recovery.

The Emco Tech Japanese plant sustained some very minor damage. As a result, the production line was closed for a short time to ensure the safety of the employees and inspect the integrity of the plant. Inspection results were positive and the line has resumed production. There was no shortage or interruption of supply, and production has not been impacted in any way. The Emco Plant is an environmentally controlled “clean room” atmosphere as required for its specific manufacturing processes. It is located many hundreds of miles south of Tokyo which is in turn a few hundred miles south of the fallout issue. Given the Emco Tech controlled environment, their testing precautions and proximity, they have assured us there is no danger inherent in any Emco Tech product – regardless of its origin.

We have received numerous questions regarding the potential radiation issue. As always, with anything health related, IonWays makes no claims, nor any definitive or absolute statements.  We encourage each of you to perform your own research, weigh your findings and reach conclusions consistent with your own conscience. That being said, we have researched the US government sites as well as alternate sources and below are the highlights of what we found.

Short of the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) guidelines for maximum contamination levels (MCLs), we found nothing else that established or even proposed safe levels of radiation as it relates to drinking water. The main page on the EPA site for contaminants is:http://water.epa.gov/drink/contaminants/index.cfm.   

On this page, you can find the MCL for Radionuclides. Once there, you can click the individual links for each type. Here, you will find that ion exchange and Reverse Osmosis are preferred treatment methods. An additional link also shows that RO is 99% effective:  http://cfpub.epa.gov/safewater/radionuclides /radionuclides.cfm?action=Rad_Reverse%20Osmosis   

So, should you choose to follow the EPA guidelines, the IonWays RO system is an excellent choice to treat this contaminant.

The EPA has put up a specific series of pages relating to the potential risk from the Japanese disaster:  http://epa.gov/radiation/index.html. The US EPA has tripled their radiation monitoring both here and in Japan. A good link to help understand the dosage issue is  http://epa.gov/radiation/understand/perspective.html.  The Centers for Disease Control also had a plethora of information – much of it borrowed form the EPA site.

Further research outside the realm of the EPA/CDC found that there is much information both on the threat level and alternate treatment/protective measures available. Specifically, we found numerous articles that cited low levels of radiation (1,000′s of times lower than the EPA MCL) that were showing in some US cities’ testing facilities. We found many sites that claimed to offer protective and/or treatment measures and suggestions. However, we found precious little in the way of specific science backing any of these up. In weighing them against the already known science about water, we found the alternatives to be lacking clear-cut and/or well presented supporting theory and science. That is not to say they are not credible or to be believed – science has certainly never proved to be 100% accurate. There are simply things that science doesn’t know or understand yet.

Some simple forms of radiation can be treated with GAC or AAL. This is why we are seeing some companies make claims about radiation removal. The reality is that most of these types of radiation are the same that we all get every day from nature, such as sunlight and  naturally occurring minerals,  etc.  These account for about 80% of our average radiation exposure, the other 20% comes from man-made products such as TVs and microwaves, medical imaging, etc., and of course the potential fallout.

Many of the more specific treatments require different methods to remove and reduce radionuclides. According to our research, some forms of radiation require systems that treat in up to five different ways. Some of these methods are really geared for industrial treatment and require much more than would be reasonable or feasible in a residential situation. So, it appears that if you choose not to accept the EPA information, there is clearly not a single clear-cut or scientifically backed answer to radiation concerns.

As previously stated, RO is the best option for the most complete removal. That being stated, all IonWays ionizers employ media that help with certain and specific types of radiation. For example all of our filtration systems utilize centaur, which is the one of the highest grades of carbon available in our industry. Carbon is an effective filter media for Radon. Inside of the elita, Naia, and Spartan systems we also utilize AAL, which has been proven very effective at the reduction of uranium. The AAL configurations in our products are designed for optimal results paying particular attention to optimal hydraulics in the water flow and proper flow rates. Fast flow rates decrease the effectiveness dramatically. The Naia and ?lita also employ carbon block, which offers increased capability through the increase in surface area.

Dr Andrew Jones was robbed by the “establishment”

Yes, friends, big brother, and those who oppose natural healthy alternatives for your pet has robbed Dr. Andrew Jones of his career in British Columbia.  They robbed him by forcing him to pay $30,000 in fines because of what he had written is his book that he gives away for free online by being too self lauditory because he cares for animals HEALTH too much.  Simply, how to keep your pet healthy!?   He resigned to avoid these penalties.

I’m amazed, perplexed, and disappointed there are people in this world who think that MEDICINAL is NATURAL or is BETTER and worse ILLEGAL to even talk about?  

Whoa, what is this world coming to when the “veterinary establishment” for animals are against good healthy practices by advertising and talking about how to really help your animals.  Here is the controversial book by Dr. Andrew Jones.  Be forewarned, they are secrets…shh.  Don’t tell anyone…be careful, you may be fined as well just for reading it and discovering how cancer is killing your animals and how a healthy diet can help your pet! 

Veterinary Secrets Revealed

Oh…shocking…brilliant…make me feel guilty!  DON’T DO IT!  Really…I mean, really.  

This is the college you may want to double check about going to if you are really concerned about being “good” Veterinarian and not losing your license to practice.  College of Veterinarians of British Columbia in North Vancouver, BC.  A BC Veterinary Medical Association spokesperson Dr. Ken Gummeson, stated on Global BC television, “Oh, he can express his opinions as much as he likes, just he’s not supposed to do them self laudatory towards himself or derogatory towards other members of his profession.”  I guess his website and advertising was a problem…really?  Here is the TV clip talking about Dr. Jones and the controversy surrounding it.  Are they that that blind about business and advertising.  Somehow those are bad things?

Many, many concerned pet owners have asked me WHY I received such a harsh fine from my Veterinary College.

Well here is a statement from the Council:

“Taking into account the findings of the Inquiry Committee, the submissions to the Council by the CVBC prosecutor and the Respondent and his legal counsel, Council believes that a significant fine is needed in this case of significant misconduct to deter Dr Jones and others from repeating such conduct therefore the Council thereby orders that the following penalties and costs be imposed upon the Respondent”

It’s so high because of ‘significant misconduct’ and the need to ‘deter Dr Jones and others from repeating such conduct’

In laymans terms…set an example.

Obama loves your pocketbook, absolutely!

*** Obama health care reform imposes 3.8% tax on all income from home sales and home rental income

The news about Obama’s health care reform just keeps getting worse and we only find these things long after the bill has passed, of course. The newest revelation concerns a 3.8% tax on income from home sales and home rentals which will go into effect in 2013. (Note: This story has been updated to clarify who the 3.8% tax impacts, see below.)

Depending on your income level, this could end up costing you thousands of dollars from the sale of a home (even if you’re a middle-class income earner). It would also place a tax burden on all rental income from any home you might rent out to others.

How could this be? Because the new health care bill imposes a 3.8% tax on “unearned income” above a certain threshold (see below), which includes income from any source that you aren’t directly working for.  This includes interest you receive on a savings account, dividends from stocks, rental income from a property you own, social security income, unemployment checks, child support and of course income from home sales.

While this tax is supposed to be targeted to “the rich” with a threshold of $250,000 in unearned income, it can very easily hit middle-class income families who sell a house with a gain, forcing them to pay the 3.8% on a portion of their gain.

There is a lot of debate on the ‘net about who this affects and exactly how this is calculated. That’s actually part of the problem: Sorting out what the law actually says is a bit of an accounting nightmare. As Nancy Pelosi said, “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it “

As an article on Spokesman.com explains: “Middle-income people must pay the full tax even if they are ‘rich’ for only one day, the day they sell their house and buy a new one.”

For further clarification, see http://www.spokesman.com/stories/20 which states, “ObamaCare imposes a 3.8 percent annual tax on investment income of individuals making $200,000 or more and on families making $250,000 or more. The new tax is not indexed to inflation, so more people will fall under it each year. Seniors on fixed incomes and people with IRAs and 401(k) plans will be hit particularly hard.”

And where is this money going? To pay for more sick care surgeries, pharmaceuticals, chemotherapy treatments, diabetes drugs, cholesterol drugs, mammograms and other virtually useless disease “treatments” that only enrich the medical industry while doing nothing to help real people.

There’s never enough money to pay for disease This 3.8% tax on unearned income from home sales and other sources is just the beginning, of course. You see, in a nation that has chosen to bet its future on a drugs-and-surgery approach to health care, there’s never enough money to pay for disease.

Treating disease is wildly more expensive than preventing disease in the first place. But treatment is also wildly profitable, thrusting billions of dollars worth of profits into the hands of drug companies, cancer clinics and radiation machine manufacturers. The entire health care reform bill, it turns out, was designed to keep these dark, dangerous industries rolling in the dough while confiscating the money to pay for it all from U.S. homeowners, investors and social security recipients.

But if people will swallow 3.8%, why not raise it to 9%? Or 18%?  That’s where this is headed because, once again, there’s never enough money to pay for disease in a nation that refuses to legalize free speech about the scientifically proven benefits of nutrition and natural health products.

Mark my words: Unless America radically alters its approach to health care and starts focusing on HEALTH instead of disease “treatment,” Big Government will only find new ways to confiscate more money from the people.

Remember, too, that this money is going into the hands of the super wealthy drug companies, cancer clinics and surgery centers of our nation. In effect, Big Government is confiscating money from the working poor and handing it over to the super rich while calling it “health care.”

Meanwhile, those who actually decide to take care of their health and avoid diseases by making healthy choices in their lives are penalized the most!  The more you work, save and invest, the more you’re punished by the government. The only way to get a “free ride” is to stop working, stop taking care of yourself and just let everybody else pick up the bill for your sickness and poverty.

Destroying America’s economy one tax at a time The worst part about this 3.8% Medicare tax is that it punishes savings and investment. At a time when the national savings rate is less than zero and when people desperately need jobs, this is a devastating blow.

New jobs, you see, come from new businesses. And new businesses can only be funded from savings and investment. But if no one is saving money (or investing it), then there are no new companies. Hence, no new jobs, either.

To place the burden of a “sick care tax” on savings and investment in America is to suppress job creation at precisely the time when we need it most.

Confiscation to pay for sick care doesn’t work in the long run That Big Government now resorts to confiscating money from home sales and savings account income is a sign of its sheer desperation.

Trapped in a downward spiral of sick-care spending and bankruptcy, America’s politicians haven’t yet grasped the simplicity of a plan that would save lives, save money and save America’s future: The natural health plan.

Genetically Modified foods are slowly killing you

Stay away from Genetically Modified (GM) foods.

Companies such as Monsanto and Bayer are NOT looking out for YOUR best interest.  Only their profits in their bank account.

There are currently eight major GM food crops on the market, so memorizing this list will help you avoid any and all food products that might contain GMO’s:

1. Soy
2. Corn
3. Cottonseed (used in vegetable cooking oils)
4. Canola (canola oil)
5. Sugar from sugar beets
6. Hawaiian papaya
7. Some varieties of zucchini
8. Crookneck squash

You’ll also want to avoid any kind of derivative of these, such as high fructose corn syrup, for example.

Depending on where you live within the European Union, you may also have to contend with the recently approved AmFlora potato, designed by BASF, which contains a gene that produces an enzyme which can confer resistance to several antibiotics. The European Commission approved the commercial growing of the GM potato in early March of this year, despite widespread protests, and concerns raised by the EU’s pharmaceutical regulator.

Part of the potato is also allowed to be used in cattle feed, and the meat will not need to be labeled as GM.

Your best bet to avoid genetically modified foods is to take advantage of local sources of organic foods as often as you can. Remember, some 75 percent of processed foods contain GM ingredients, so you’ll want to avoid as many processed foods as possible.

Why GM Crops are a Threat to Your Health

I believe that aside from common sense, which says it might not be such a good idea to consume toxins in every bite of food (which is what you’re doing when you eat a food that contains built-in pesticide or herbicide), there’s compelling scientific evidence demonstrating that GM foods can cause a number of health problems, and that these health problems may get more and more critical with each passing generation.

I recently interviewed GMO expert Jeffrey Smith on this topic. In that interview, he discussed a recent Russian animal study that illustrates the generational health hazards of a GM diet.

In the second generation, GM soy-fed hamsters had a five-fold higher infant mortality rate, compared the controls.

But it got worse, because nearly all of the third generation hamsters fed GM soy were sterile…

As you may know, genetically modified crops weren’t released until 1996, starting with GM soy, corn and cotton. Modified canola came about a year later.

Humans have much longer life spans than hamsters and other lab animals, so we have not even begun to see the health effects of GM foods on our FIRST generation yet!

We’re still nowhere near seeing the full effects of these potential ramifications in humans, as we’re only about 15 years into it. But if the effects are anything like the effects on numerous types of animals, we could be looking at significant health problems, including sterility on a grand scale as our great-grandchildren grow up…

The fact that the US is completely unwilling to implement the precautionary principle with regards to GM foods is incomprehensible in light of the findings we already have from animal studies.

Additionally, some 800 genetically engineered food applications have been submitted to the USDA, but not one single environmental impact statement has been prepared!

So not only are human health ramifications ignored, but the entire eco system is being jeopardized.

MUST HAVE Copy of Non-GMO Shopping Guide

The easiest way to avoid ending up with GM foods in your shopping cart is to do some pre-planning using this free non-GMO shopping guide. The Institute for Responsible Technology has also created a free iPhone application that is available in the iTunes store. You can find it by searching for ShopNoGMO in the applications.

The shopping guide lists the various derivatives of each crop to be avoided, and even better, it lists hundreds of brand products in 22 food categories that are non-GMO, so if you’re still buying processed foods, at least you can easily select a brand that does not use genetically modified ingredients.

Drug companies accused of ‘conning’ the public

Drug companies have been accused of conning the public in a report that claimed more than four fifths of new medicines offer few benefits.

“The evidence here indicates that the two-tier market for prescription drugs is the largest and most dangerous market for lemons in modern society. Neither wars nor used car injuries come close.”

“The study includes data gathered from independent reviewers which suggest that 85 per cent of new drugs provide few, if any, new benefits.”

“…the ”risk proliferation syndrome” involved in drug marketing. This is said to arise from maximizing the number of patients exposed to the side effects of new drugs of dubious efficacy. ”

“Physicians inadvertently became ”double agents” – promoters of the new drug, yet trusted stewards of patients’ health. When patients complain of adverse reactions, studies show that doctors are likely to discount or dismiss them…”
